Buthidaung: Police officers from Kyaung Taung and military personnel from Myanmar Army Battalion No. 552 started harassing Rohingya villagers since March 24, 2017.

At midnight on Friday, the armed forces entered Rohingya houses in Nga Yant Chaung (Taung Bazar), Buthidaung Township and reportedly beat the villagers indiscriminately arresting three Rohingya men.

Dolaya, 35 (son of Siddique), Yousuf, 34 (son of Shamsu) and Shaiful Hoque 32 (son of Shaifal) were taken to the police outpost located in Nga Yant Chaung.

Besides harassment and arrest, the officials also confiscated the documents of their personal properties and belongings.

Another 55 years old Rohingya, named Shabir, (s/o Abdu Jalil) was beaten humanely by Rakhine villagers and police constable Ko Ko Oo (s/o Lat Pyu Chay) Taung Bazar.

Although not affected during the clearance operations, the township has seen the rise of harassment, extortion and arrest in the last few months as the United Nations approved and urgently called for a commission of inquiry to probe human rights abuses of armed forces against Rohingya civilians in the neighbouring Maungdaw Township.
