Teknaf: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained six small boats full of Rohingya who fled Myanmar’s cruel persecution and entered into Bangladesh through various border points including Teknaf and Ukhiya. On Wednesday and Thursday, those Rohingya were sent back to Myanmar. The fate of these Rohingya is unknown.

According to the Cox’s Bazaar BGB-34 Commander Lt. Col Imran Ullah Sarkar, BGB personnel detained at least 1 Rohingya woman and 6 Rohingya men while entering Bangladesh through Ukhiya border point till Thursday morning. Eventually, they were pushed them back to Myanmar.

Teknaf BGB-2 Commander Lt. Col Abuzar Al Zahid said, “BGB forces held six boats of Rohingya who were fleeing persecution of Myanmar security forces in Arakan to Bangladesh through two border points of Teknaf from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning.”

Later, on the same days, those detained boats of Rohingya were forced back to Myanmar. The boats contained at least 12-15 Rohingya men including women and children.

A local businessman of Teknaf said, “It will be better if Bangladesh help solving the Rohingya issue through dialogue with Myanmar government rather than pushing the Rohingya back to Myanmar which has become a hell for them for the time being.

Otherwise, Myanmar’s persecution of Rohingya will continue and the infiltrations of Rohingya into Bangladesh from Myanmar will never be ended”.
