BGB pushes back 11 boats packed with fleeing Rohingya

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) forces caught eleven paddle boats loaded with Rohingya asylum seekers and sent back to Myanmar while trying to enter into Bangladesh through various points of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

According to Teknaf BGB battalion-2 commander Lt. Col Abuzar Al Zahid, on Saturday before sunrise, BGB security forces detained the eleven boats of Rohingya while they were entering Bangladesh through five border points of Teknaf and pushed back to Myanmar.

He also said 251 small boats in which 2,450 Rohingya asylum seekers fleeing violence of military forces in Myanmar were detained while crossing through 15 border points with Myanmar and sent back by BGB since November 1, 2016.
Besides, BGB patrolling has been enforced along the border with Myanmar to prevent Rohingya infiltration into Bangladesh, said the BGB official.

According to information, the waves of Rohingya influxes into Bangladesh are increasing day by day with a hope to safety owing to continuous barbarous atrocities of Myanmar army against the persecuted Rohingya Muslims in Arakan State.

A Rohingya asylum seeker said, rape, torture, arbitrary arrest, summary killing and looting by Myanmar security forces still widespreadly taking place against the Rohingya Muslims for which we were compelled to flee to Bangladesh to save our lives.
