Arakan Army, a Buddhist rebel organisation in Myanmar, has exchanged gunshots with the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along frontier Boro Modak area of Thanchi upazila in the hilly district.
During the sudden firing that erupted around 9:30am Wednesday, a BGB Nayek namely Jakir Hossain sustained bullet wounds and he was admitted to combined military hospital of Chittagong.
Locals said some AA members opened fire on BGB personnel being challenged by the latter while they were taking 13 horses through Boro Modak area of Thanchi upazila in the morning.
In retaliation, BGB men fired back, triggering a gunfight. Two horses belonging to Arakan Army were killed during the exchange of fire.
Being informed, the authorities concerned sent more BGB members to the spot.
Confirming the incident, Thanchi’s Rematri UP Chairman Maliram Tripura said: “Criminals have opened shooting on the BGB camp in Boro Madak area in the morning.”
Local Headman Sing Me Ar Marma said the locals feel insecure following the incident after which security measures were beefed up on the Bandarban-Myanmar border.
