Myanmar Military Attempt to Rape Rohingya Woman in Minbya Tsp

Minbya Township, Arakan– Around 2:30AM on 24th May 2014, three Myanmar military personnel belong to battalion 379 broke into a Rohingya home to rape a woman. When she shouted for help, neighbors came for rescue and forced the three military to flee.
 
“Around 2:30AM on 24th May 2014, three military belong to battalion 379 broke into a Rohingya home in Paikthay village (Zaillya Fara) in Minbya Township. They attempted to rape a Rohingya woman in the house. She is Ms. Mahmudaa (daughter of) Aashu and 30 years old. She is living with two younger sisters and widow mother of hers. Her father was killed by Rakhine extremists during 2012 violence.
 
When she shouted out for help, her neighbour came for rescue. Then, the military ran away.”
 
“It’s nothing new in the region. The military harass and torture us. They extort money from us. Sometimes, they rape or attempt to rape Rohingya women and girls. There is no one to take action against them here” he added.
