Maungdaw, Arakan– Around 1:40AM on 3rd May 2014, a group of armed terrorists in disguise of robbers killed the administrator of the village of Thinbaw Kway (Kullon) and other two villagers in southern Maungdaw. They injured 9 other people as well. Authority blames some armed robbers in a nearby forest for the killings. However, locals strongly believe that they were not just the robbers but militants from Arakan Liberation Army (ALA) and some member of Security Force also involved in the killings.
“There is a gang of robbers in a forest in southern Maungdaw. Leader and some members of the gang are Rohingya themselves. Gang leader is called Abdul Hakim. They often kidnap wealthy Rohingyas in the region and extort millions of Kyats (Myanmar Currency) from them. Local Rohingyas frequently complain to the authority to take action against the dacoits. However, instead of taking action against them (the dacoits), Military, Police and Security Force (Hlun Htein) give full protection to them because they (the dacoits) give more 70% of shares to them (i.e. military, police and security force). Therefore, there is no doubt that they collaborate together to rob local Rohingyas.
On 2nd May 2014 morning, while two Rohingyas were working at their betel farm by a forest in the village of Thinbaw Kway (Kullon) of southern Maungdaw, some members of armed Rakhine militants and Security Force (Hlun Htein) caught them and beat them up almost to death all day. They are still in critical condition. The victims believed armed militants were members of ALA (Arakan Liberation Army).
At night of the same day (i.e. around 1:40AM on 3rd May 2014), the armed Rakhine Terrorists and some members of the dacoit gangs entered the village of Thinbaw Kway (Kullon). Then, they broke into the house of the village administrator, U Zakariyya. Soon after, they started quarreling with the administrator. The administrator shouted out for help. The Security Force camp is around just 500 yards away. They didn’t come out to take action against the terrorists. But the villagers came for rescue. Therefore, the group of the armed raiders started shooting at the villagers. Three Rohingyas died on the spot and other nine Rohingyas also got injured as they were hit by bullets.
The names of the people killed are:
1) U Zakariyya the administrator of the village, Age (35)
2) (the administrator’s pregnant wife) Hasina (daughter of) Islam, Age (33)
3) Mv Sayid Amin (son of) Abdu Zabbar (Age 28)
The names of the people injured are:
1) Deen Mohammed (son of) Mv Nazir (10-household-head)
2) Moghul (son of) Fazal (10-household-head)
3) Enamullah (son of) Khala Chand
4) Abdul Manaf (son of) Abbas
5) Jalal Ahmed (son of) Bashir
6) Nizamuddin (son of) Amzul Hussein
7) Noor Ahmed (son of) Nabi Hussein
8) Fayazu (son of) Nazir
9) Bashir (son of) Lukhman Hakim” said a local of the village.
“The injured people have been sent to Maungdaw Hospital. However, the authorities are arbitrarily accusing us of cooperating with the dacoits in the crimes. They accuse us of cooperating with the dacoits that came from Bangladesh. We have complaint many times to the authority against the dacoits. In fact, those who cooperate with the dacoits are Military, Security Force, Hlun Hteins, Rakhine Terrorists and a Bangladeshi MP called Bodi (the MP of Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh). The authorities are now raiding villagers’ homes, arresting and torturing the villagers. Our situation here is extremely vulnerable” he continued.
