Pauktaw, Arakan- On 8th Novermber 2013, Military from the battalion 233 in Pauktaw township crashed a one-year-and-six-month old baby during the hours of barbaric raids in the Camps of Sin-Hten-Maw (Sandama).
Sallam Oic Group, a team of Rohingya activists on the ground, reported the whole account of the tragedy as mentioned below.
“At 10:35AM today (i.e. on 8th November 2013), military from the battalion 233 in Pauktaw township raided Rohingya IDP camps at Sin-Htet-Maw (Sandama), Pauktaw township, and ordered Rohingya IDP to destroy the tents set up by UNHCR. Since the displaced Rohingyas were hesitating to destroy the tents, military went barbaric and destroyed many tents by force.
Meanwhile, the military crashed a one-year-and-six-month-old baby by their boots during the hours of brute and arbitrary use of force. And the baby died instantly. She was “Anwar Begum” daughter of U Khalu and Daw Dildar Begum. When her parents asked the military for the dead body so as to bury it accordingly, military rather harrased the parents and took the body away.”
Since 5th November 2013, Pauktaw twonship administration and military from the battalion 233 have been forcing Rohingya IDP in Sin-Htet-Maw (Sandama) camps, (Pauktaw township) to evacuate the camps and move to the camps built at the village of Nget-Chaung. The reasons why Rohingya IDP in the camps do not want to move to the Nget-Chaung camps were mentioned in the earlier report.
