Emergency Act 144 only for Rohingya, not for other in northern Arakan

Maungdaw, Arakan State: Maungdaw district authority announced today to support and participate in the culture and dance competition which will hold in Thiremangala hall of Maungdaw on October 1-3, 2013, according toan officer from Maungdaw. 

The competition will hold under Maungdaw district – Maungdaw and Buthidaung – and the Maungdaw officials are organizing to support and participate in the culture and dance show of Maungdaw group. The officials are announcing around the town with car and through the village admin offices in rural areas, the officer said.

But, Arakan State Chief Minister Hla Maung Tin said on September 22 at meeting with Maungdaw Rohingya community that there are emergency Act 144 is still impose, so no more than five persons are not allow to gather and no religious institutions will open till emergency Act 144 is imposed. How the Maungdaw authority are organizing to support and participate the culture and dance show in Thiremangala Hall?  Is there no more than five people gather in the Hall or it is only for Rohingya community?, said an elder from Maungdaw.

The Rakhine Buddhist community can do everything within the period of emergency Act 144, but the Rohingya Muslim community can’t able to pray in Mosques for these so called emergency Act 144. It seen two laws for two community in same area and why? Is the law base on religious, but Burma constitution declared – no religious discrimination and freedom of faith (religious), said a politician from Maungdaw.
