Sittwe (Akyab), Burma: Today, in the morning, a clash was occurred between Rohingya people and an inquiry team in Sittwe (Akyab), the capital of Arakan State, according to a man from Akyab who denied to be named.
Today, in the morning, a group of inquiry team, consist of immigration, police, Nasaka( Burma’s border security force), military and other concerned authorities went to Amla Para of Sittwe town and collected data of the Rohingya people.
When the people asked to say their race— they said that they are “Rohingya” people but the team wrote down as “Bengali” in the Colum of the race and nationality. As a result, there was a dispute between the inquiry team and the local Rohingya villagers. To control the ferocity, the security forces fired to the people, but no one was hit by the bullets.
After the event, the inquiry team returned to their destination as the Rohingya villagers did not co-operate with them.
Last year, after the violence, in Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Sittwe (Akyab) Townships and other towns in Arakan State, the authorities concerned tried to compose as “Bengali” race in computer instead of “Rohingya” race. Therefore, Rohingya people strongly opposed it and the project was temporarily stopped. Now, the authorities resume collecting “Bengali” name in place of “Rohingya” using power, another man from Sittwe said.
