ERC, a non-governmental organization, was formed by the Rohingyas living in 12 different European nations at the end of the two-day convention held in Denmark from 6th to 7th October, 2012. It was formed with urgency in order to make a strong and unified voice to draw the attention of international community towards the genocide being committed against Rohingyas, and their decades of sufferings both in their homeland and neighboring countries. ERC is comprised of around a hundred members with 12 council members, 8 secretariats and an advisory board. Since inception ERC is actively working with other Rohingya and non-Rohingya organizations around the world.
Situation of Rohingya in Arakan, Burma (Myanmar)
There is no let-up in the genocidal campaign started against the Rohingya minority on 8th June 2012 by Rakhine extremists and their masters in the Burmese army. In some places persecution has in fact increased though they are not done openly. State government is fully complicit in these crimes because it is consistently instigating violence against Rohingyas by various means. As a result thousands of innocent Rohingyas have lost their lives, and everything they owned. But the persecution doesn’t stop there because extremists has decided to cleanse the Rohingyas from the soil of Arakan which means they will press on with their agenda as long as there remains Rohingyas on the soil of Arakan.
We Rohingyas cannot remain inactive while enemies are using every method to exterminate us. We, The European Rohingya Council (ERC), have therefore decided to stage a three-day demonstration in front of the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium from 21st January to 23rd January 2013 (3 days from 13:00 to 15:00 Hrs), in order to draw the attention of the European communities towards our plights.
The European Rohingya Council (ERC) is inviting and requesting every Rohingya and peace loving people to join hand and make our voice stronger. We strongly believe that your participation in the aforementioned demonstration can save the loss of innocent lives.
