Nasaka arrests two young boys in Maungdaw north

Maungdaw, Arakan State:  Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) arrested two young boys under 12 years from Maungdaw north today 10:00 am and are detained in the Nasaka camp, said a close relative of the boys.

“The arrested boys are identified as Ramjan Hakim (11), son of Dolla Meah and Kala Meah (10), son of Khobir Ahmed. Both of them belong to Powet Chaung village of Maungdaw Township.”

Today, at about 10:00 am, a group of Nasaka personnel from Powet Chaung village Nasaka out-post went to the victims’ houses and arrested them in the absent of their fathers and brought to the Nasaka camp where they are detained, keeping in a stocks, said another relative.

Their fathers are in Saudi Arabia at present, so, the Nasaka asked them to pay money because they communicated to their fathers in Saudi Arabia, the relative more added.
The Nasaka appointed local phoned agent in the village tract recently and the villagers are forced to contact their relatives in abroad through Nasaka’s phoned agent.
Every family, per four months has to pay Kyat 40,000 to 50,000 to the Nasaka that have relatives in abroad.  This money is only for phone call, said a local elder.
Nasaka demanded Kyat 30,000 per each to be released the boys. But, their relatives are not able to pay the money immediately. As a result, the young boys are so far detained in the Nasaka camp, according to a local youth preferring not be named.
The Nasaka did not feed to the arrestees and the relatives have to send food from their homes.
Mothers of the arrestees are upset because of their young sons will facing troubles at night for the lack of blankets as winter season is going on, said a cousin of the victims.
