Authority arrest Rohingya to extort money in Maungdaw

Maungdaw, Arakan State: The authority – Burma’s border security force (Nasaka)- arrested  more Rohingyas to extort money  in Maungdaw with false allegation and so called arrest warrant , according to a family member of the victim.

“Nasaka arrested a Rohingya youth of Maungdaw Township on September 24, over allegation that he was holding a Bangladeshi mobile set and demanded Kyat 500,000 to be released.”

The arrested was identified as Sultan Ahmed (19), son of Hussain Ahmed, hailed from Horsara village tract of Maungdaw Township.

On that day, in the morning, a group of Nasaka fron Nasaka area No.7 went to his house and arrested him over the allegation that he was holding a Bangladeshi mobile set. The arrestee was denied that he was not holding mobile set.  However, Sultan has been brought to the Nasaka camp where he was detained and severely tortured. Nasaka demanded Kyat 500,000 for his release, said an aide of Nasaka.

According to sources, he was detained in the camp so far, as he was unable to pay the money because of his poverty.

In this way, the Nasaka compelled the villagers to pay the money by using power such as arresting and torturing, said a relative of the victim.
